Luton Council has partnered with Believ to install the first dedicated electric vehicle (EV) chargepoints for residents living in council housing across five locations in Luton.

The new fast chargepoints are now operational at Vadis Close, The Moakes, The Crossways, The Green, and Bailey Street. This initiative marks a significant step in expanding EV charging infrastructure for those without private driveways or off-street parking.
Councillor Adrees Latif, portfolio holder for Sustainable Development and Highways, highlighted the importance of convenient charging for residents transitioning to electric vehicles. He stated, "Access to convenient EV charging is an important part of supporting residents who want to make the switch to an electric vehicle, but who may not have their own driveway or off-street parking."
Councillor Latif added, "These new chargepoints are the first we have installed specifically to support residents living in council housing, helping to make EV charging more accessible in locations where it is needed. This is part of our wider work to improve EV charging provision across Luton and support residents in making more sustainable travel choices. We will continue to look at opportunities to expand the charging network and make it easier for more people to make the transition to electric vehicles."
Believ, the chargepoint operator, has fully funded the installation and will manage their operation and maintenance. Guy Bartlett, CEO of Believ, commented, "By expanding the EV charging network in Luton, we’re helping more residents make the switch to electric vehicles. We’re pleased to continue working with Luton Council to provide reliable and convenient charging infrastructure, supporting the council’s wider sustainability ambitions and helping to reduce road transport emissions across the community."
The chargepoints are publicly accessible, with parking restrictions in place at The Green, Vardis Close, The Moakes, and Bailey Street. They are primarily intended to benefit local residents lacking off-street charging facilities. Further details on the service, charging, and pricing are available on Believ’s website.
Plans are underway for additional chargepoints at four of these locations, alongside further EV charging infrastructure development across Luton. The council remains committed to exploring opportunities to expand the network and enhance EV charging access for residents without private off-street parking.
