Eligible adults can receive their NHS flu or COVID-19 vaccinations between 9am and 2pm without needing to book an appointment. The clinic aims to provide convenient access for residents, particularly older individuals who may find it difficult to travel to appointments elsewhere.
Councillor Jayne Chapman for Brightlingsea expressed gratitude to the NHS for organising the clinic, highlighting its importance for local residents. Dr Matthew Sweeting, Executive Medical Director at NHS Essex, emphasised that vaccinations are crucial for preventing serious illness and hospitalisation during winter.
The clinic offers protection against both viruses before they circulate more widely. Those at greatest risk of serious illness, including people who are immunosuppressed, adults aged 65 and over, pregnant women, and individuals with certain long-term conditions, are eligible for the free flu vaccine. School-aged children can receive theirs via school, and 2-3 year olds through their GP practice.
The NHS COVID-19 vaccine programme is available for residents aged 75 or over, those aged 6 months to 74 with a weakened immune system, and older adults in care homes. Vaccination is recommended up to 14 days before winter viruses become more prevalent for optimal protection.
Free parking is available on site. For those unable to attend the clinic, appointments can be booked with a GP practice or local pharmacy. Further information can be found on the NHS website.
