The Maldon District Council has announced the winners of its 43rd annual Conservation and Design Awards, recognising excellence in preserving historical structures and innovative new builds.
The 43rd Maldon District Conservation and Design Awards have celebrated outstanding projects from across the district. This year's accolades included the meticulous conservation of an 18th-century grade II listed former smithy, noted for its distinctive 'sideways lean' and crooked windows. Also recognised was the design of a new church in Tolleshunt Knights, featuring intricate hand-painted murals, and the sympathetic renovation of a pub dating back to 1740.
The awards presentation ceremony was held on 6th October at the Friends Meeting House in Maldon. A distinguished judging panel, comprising architects and conservation specialists, selected the winners from a competitive field.

"Congratulations to all the winners and those highly commended this year. Seeing first-hand the work that goes into the conservation and renovation of these properties has been inspiring. The detail that is included in these properties, such as hand-forged nails, mosaics and traditional materials has been wonderful to see and I would like to congratulate all the owners and crafts people who have taken on these challenges."
