The proposed £4.752 million project, approved by North Herts Council in February 2026, will feature a new 15m x 10m pool with dedicated changing facilities. This development aims to increase access to swimming lessons, beginner sessions, and family activities.
The new pool is expected to alleviate pressure on the existing main pool, freeing up capacity for public swimming, school bookings, lane swimming, and club usage. In line with the Council’s commitment to sustainability, the facility will be built to optimise energy efficiency, incorporating air source heat pumps and solar PV panels, following recent decarbonisation works completed in April 2026.
The planning application was submitted on Friday 9 October 2026. Following planning permission and construction contract approval, work is anticipated to commence in February 2027, with completion expected by April 2028.
“"I am so excited to see the designs for the new pool come together and to reach this major milestone. The learner pool is going to be a valuable asset for the local community, enabling many more local children and adults to learn this essential life skill in a safe and welcoming environment."
