Stevenage officially launched its '80 Trees for Stevenage' project on Wednesday 28 October, with a ceremonial planting to mark the town's 80th anniversary as a New Town.

The initiative, titled 80 Trees for Stevenage at 80, aims to create a lasting green legacy. Over the autumn, 80 trees will be planted along a four-mile heritage trail that winds through neighbourhoods significant to Stevenage's development since it became Britain's first New Town.
This project celebrates a key milestone in the town's history while simultaneously enhancing its green infrastructure, boosting biodiversity, and improving resilience to climate change. The trail will trace Stevenage's evolution from its post-war beginnings to its present day.
The launch event took place at Walden End, opposite Vista Tower, where the first tree was ceremonially planted. Following this, participants travelled to Hampson Park in Pin Green to plant the final commemorative tree.
Members of the public were invited to join the Mayor of Stevenage in marking the project's commencement. The remaining 78 trees are scheduled to be planted in the weeks following the launch event.
