The committee will review a planning and advertisement consent application submitted by West Suffolk Council for a new wayfinding signage system designed to enhance the town centre. This initiative is part of a broader £1.693 million Haverhill High Street Enhancement Scheme, aimed at revitalising the area and making it more accessible and welcoming.
The proposed signage includes three double-sided, non-illuminated wayfinding totems to be placed outside the Haverhill Arts Centre, Boots, and Peas Market Hill. Additionally, four directional post signs are planned for locations including the Arts Centre car park, Jubilee Walk, Jubilee Walk Plaza, and Lower Down Slade.
These proposals have been developed with input from local residents and the Haverhill Local History Group. Artist Steve Pardue worked with the community to gather memories and historical information, ensuring the wayfinding system reflects Haverhill’s distinctive identity and heritage.
“"These proposals are an important first step in creating a more welcoming, attractive and connected town centre for Haverhill."
Cllr Indy Wijenayaka, Cabinet Member for Growth at West Suffolk Council, stated that the council hopes the signs will replace outdated ones, improve accessibility, and reinforce Haverhill’s unique identity. He added that the signs will deliver visible early benefits while supporting the long-term regeneration goals of the Haverhill High Street scheme.
