A significant £25,000 donation has been used to enhance end-of-life care facilities at Broomfield Hospital, transforming five rooms on the elderly care and specialist stroke wards into more comfortable and welcoming spaces for patients and their families.
The funds, donated by Friends at Broomfield Hospital with support from Chelmsford Round Table to the Mid and South Essex Hospitals Charity’s Dandelion Appeal, have been spent on creating dedicated side rooms. These spaces aim to provide patients in their final days with comfort and dignity, while also offering loved ones a peaceful environment to spend precious time together.
Debbie Boulden, End-of-Life Lead Nurse, welcomed representatives from the Friends group to showcase the impact of the funding. She shared the vision behind the appeal, emphasising the importance of environments that facilitate meaningful memories for families, supported by compassionate care.
The Dandelion Appeal supports end-of-life care across Basildon, Broomfield, and Southend hospitals. Improvements funded include overnight beds for relatives, recliner chairs, and comforting wall art, all designed to provide comfort, dignity, and compassion during difficult times.
