The new entrance, part of wider improvements to the hospital's front, features amenities such as a Costa Coffee and Co-op, along with additional office space for staff. Stevenage MP Kevin Bonavia officially opened the entrance on Wednesday 21 October, joined by representatives from the East and North Hertfordshire Teaching NHS Trust and construction partners Noviniti, Goldbeck, and OneRetail.
Martin Armstrong, Chief Executive at East and North Hertfordshire Teaching NHS Trust, stated: “The main entrance is the front door to our hospital, so creating a modern and welcoming space is really important. This commercially-funded project represents a significant improvement to the Lister site and provides a better environment for the people who use and work at our hospital every day.”
The opening also signifies the completion of enhancements to the surrounding green space, now offering a more attractive and accessible area. This includes a new drop-off zone, additional seating, picnic-style lawn areas, biodiverse planting, and a dedicated zone for local market traders and seasonal health promotions.
Kevin Howell, Director of Estates and Facilities at East and North Hertfordshire Teaching NHS Trust, commented: “We are delighted to finally open the doors to our new main entrance. The new entrance will provide a much better experience for our patients, visitors and staff from the moment they arrive at Lister.”
Refurbishment work on the existing main corridor is set to commence, with completion anticipated later this year. Further information on the new main entrance project is available on the trust's website.
