The approved developments will enhance capacity and facilities at Cranfield Church of England Academy (St Paul's), Holywell School, and both the Church End and Forest End sites of Marston Moreteyne VC School. These schools recently transitioned to primary or secondary education in September.
These projects will collectively provide space for an additional 693 pupils and approximately 60 staff members. The plans include new classrooms, upgraded sports facilities, improved outdoor areas, and various sustainability measures.
At Cranfield Church of England Academy (St Paul's), capacity will increase from 147 to 420 pupils with a new two-storey teaching block, refurbished existing buildings, and enhanced outdoor facilities. Holywell School will see its capacity rise from 720 to 900 pupils through a new teaching block, refurbishment, and improved sports facilities, including a multi-use games area.
Marston Moreteyne VC School's Church End and Forest End campuses will each gain 120 places, supporting their development into full primary schools as part of the area's educational transition. The developments also incorporate measures for safe and sustainable travel to school, such as increased cycle and scooter parking and updated travel plans.
Environmental enhancements are a key feature across all four schemes, including biodiversity improvements, new planting, and habitat creation. Sustainability measures include solar panels, air source heat pumps, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
“"Every child deserves the opportunity to learn in an environment that helps them thrive, and these projects will create modern, fit-for-the-future facilities that support teaching, learning and wellbeing."
Councillor Gareth Mackey, Executive Member for Children and Families, stated that the new facilities will benefit current and future pupils, ensuring schools have the necessary capacity. He also highlighted the significant environmental enhancements and sustainable design features, aligning with wider ambitions for sustainability and community wellbeing. Further work will continue in collaboration with schools, local communities, and council officers as the projects progress.
Work on the approved developments is expected to commence, subject to the discharge of planning conditions.
