“"Many students are excited by entrepreneurship, but maintaining momentum after that initial spark of interest can be challenging. The Edge has been designed to remove barriers and encourage action from day one. We have seen students test ideas, build prototypes, speak to real users and even launch businesses. Being ranked first in the UK by Enterprise Educators UK is fantastic recognition of ARU’s entrepreneurial culture and our commitment to helping students develop the confidence and skills to create opportunities for themselves and others."

Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) has achieved national recognition after its student enterprise programme, The Edge, was ranked first in the UK and selected for national funding.
The Anglia Ruskin Enterprise Academy (AREA) programme, a six-week entrepreneurship “sprint”, topped the rankings for the Enterprise Educators UK (EEUK) Impact Fund 2026/27. It is one of only three projects nationwide chosen for funding.
This accolade follows ARU's recent shortlisting in the Outstanding Entrepreneurial University category at the Times Higher Education Awards. The EEUK funding will support a research evaluation of The Edge, which helps students develop business ideas into reality through structured online missions.
Participants work at their own pace, completing missions on idea development, AI-enabled prototyping, user research, and pitching, with access to mentor support. Two cohorts have already completed the sprint, resulting in the formal registration of two companies incubated by The Edge.
The project aligns with ARU's broader commitment to enterprise and innovation, equipping students with sought-after skills like problem-solving, creativity, initiative, and communication. In 2024, ARU became the first UK university to receive the National Centre for Entrepreneurship in Education's prestigious Entrepreneurial University Award.
The research evaluation will run throughout the 2026/27 academic year, with findings and a toolkit for adoption by other UK universities to be shared later in 2027.
