"Better Queensway is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to transform the heart of our city, and build a place that current and future residents can be proud of."

Councillor Daniel Cowan · Leader of Southend-on-Sea City Council
Councillor Daniel Cowan, Leader of Southend-on-Sea City Council, stated that "Subject to Cabinet approval, this is a major milestone with the process of setting up an Investment Partnership. Through which, the city council will work jointly with a commercial organisation to ensure that future development phases are both fundable and deliverable."
The City Council had previously put forward plans for developing up to 1,000 homes in the initial phases of the project. Further details can be found in the full report from the Joint Scrutiny Meeting held on Thursday, 12th November 2026.
