As temperatures drop and heating costs remain high, bags containing practical items are being given out to help older people stay warm this winter. The council is distributing these bags through its offices and Healthy Hubs to vulnerable residents aged 55 and over in the Three Rivers district.
Each bag contains a fleece blanket, thermal hat and gloves, hot drinks, soup and porridge, along with an information pack detailing available support and local activities. This initiative is a collaboration with Small Acts of Kindness.
Cllr Steve Drury, Lead Member for Community Engagement, Public Safety & Housing, stated: “We are proud to once again distribute Small Acts of Kindness Warm in Winter bags. We know how much they mean to the people who receive them and the difference they make in our community.”
This year, the council is also distributing Purple Pages information packs. These aim to help older and vulnerable residents who may not struggle with warmth but are not digitally connected to find and access available services and support.
Residents aged 55 or over who are struggling to keep warm at home this winter are encouraged to collect a bag from the council offices or one of the Healthy Hubs. For more information on the gift bags, visit the Small Acts of Kindness website. Details about cost-of-living support can be found on the Three Rivers District Council website.
Collection points include Three Rivers House (Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm), Maple Cross JMI & Nursery School (Mondays, 1pm to 4pm), The Mill Cafe (Tuesdays, 1pm to 4pm), Mill End Community Centre (fortnightly Wednesdays, 9:30am to 12:30pm), Citizens Advice Abbots Langley (Wednesdays, 1pm to 4pm), and Oxhey Library (Thursdays, 9:30am to 1pm).
