Three Rivers District Council has reported a substantial rise in resident engagement with its summer activities, with over 3,000 bookings recorded for a range of programmes designed to promote active lifestyles.

The council organised a summer programme featuring free interactive trails, low-cost sports sessions, and popular Play Rangers and Playscheme initiatives, catering to diverse age groups and interests. Nearly 2,000 participants engaged with the interactive trails at Leavesden Country Park and Oxhey Woods, collectively walking an estimated 5.9 million steps.
Attendance at the council’s Active Parks sessions saw a nearly 40% increase, with over 800 bookings for activities such as yoga, Pilates, Zumba, and beginner running sessions. These programmes were designed to support residents seeking to adopt more active lifestyles.
The Play Ranger sessions also experienced growth, with more than 1,100 bookings. Requiring only an annual membership of £7 per child, these sessions offer an affordable way for children to explore the outdoors through activities like woodland crafts, tree climbing, and games.
Furthermore, over 1,300 spaces were booked for the summer Playscheme, an Ofsted-registered childcare scheme described by one parent as "absolutely amazing!" for keeping children engaged and safe.

With the long summer break to plan for, and with the cost of living to take into consideration I am delighted that so many residents took part in the numerous activities we had on offer. I am proud that Three Rivers continues to support our residents to lead healthier and more active lifestyles.

Other activities included free Wild Play sessions, guided walks, storytelling, art workshops, keep fit sessions, and tailored Parkinson classes. Residents can sign up for leisure news and activity updates via the council's e-newsletter.
