Watford will come together on Sunday 8 November to honour the sacrifices of its servicemen and women at ceremonies held across the borough, including the main event at the Peace Memorial outside Watford Town Hall.

The town is preparing to pay tribute to generations of individuals who have served their country, remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice. From those who served in the First and Second World Wars to current members of the Armed Forces, Watford maintains a strong connection to Britain's military history.
The main Remembrance Sunday ceremony is scheduled for 3pm on Sunday 8 November at the Peace Memorial. Representatives from the Royal British Legion and other organisations will lay wreaths. The ceremony will feature a two-minute silence and readings by the Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, and the Chairman of the Council, Councillor Sohail Bashir. The Vice Chairman of the Council and the Lord-Lieutenant of Hertfordshire will also be in attendance.
As part of this year's commemorations, silhouette figures of First World War soldiers, known as 'Tommies', will be displayed at various locations throughout Watford. This project, by the charity Remembered, aims to bring the stories of those who served to life for younger generations and raise awareness and funds for those affected by the hidden wounds of war. A map of the silhouette locations will be available on the council's website.
Residents are also encouraged to attend local remembrance services across the borough, offering communities opportunities to reflect and pay their respects. Services include: All Saints Church (9am service and 10.45am Civic Service at War Memorial, High Road, Leavesden); Oxhey Village Green and Watford Heath (2.15pm start at Oxhey Village Green, 3pm service at Watford Heath Memorial); St Matthew's Church (10am service and 10.40am silence at war memorial outside church). Details for St Mary's Church are to be confirmed.
“

"Remembrance Sunday is an important opportunity for us all to come together, reflect and honour the courage and sacrifice of those who have served our country. Watford has a proud history of supporting our Armed Forces, and we will never forget those who gave their lives for our freedom. I encourage residents to join us as we pay our respects and ensure their memory lives on for future generations."
