The campaign highlights the importance of vaccinations as a key defence against winter viruses, encouraging eligible individuals to get vaccinated early for maximum protection. It also stresses the benefits of staying warm and well-nourished, with the ICB's winter web pages offering links to local cost of living support, healthy eating tips, and advice on staying connected to boost wellbeing.
For minor illnesses, the NHS advises restocking medicine cabinets to manage symptoms at home. For more urgent concerns, residents are encouraged to use the most appropriate NHS service. Local pharmacies can offer advice and medication for seven common conditions, including sore throats and sinusitis, without requiring a GP appointment.
Mental health and emotional wellbeing are also prioritised. Lisa Nobes, Executive Director of Nursing for NHS Norfolk and Suffolk ICB, encouraged people to "do winter their way" by setting realistic expectations and focusing on wellbeing-boosting activities like staying active and connected with others. She also urged those struggling with their mental health to seek support early.
“"Winter can be a wonderful time of year, but it can also bring challenges. Looking after your mental wellbeing, staying connected with others, keeping active, getting vaccinated when offered and knowing where to go for help can all make a real difference."
Nobes added, "We know that our brilliant communities across Norfolk and Suffolk will stick together this winter, and the NHS is here if you need it. Please don’t hesitate to ask for help when you need it."
