Over 120 children, young people, carers, and supporters gathered in Huntingdon to celebrate the achievements of Cambridgeshire's children in care at an annual awards ceremony.
More than 120 children, young people, carers, and supporters convened at Inflatebounce in Huntingdon on Friday 9 October to honour the accomplishments of Cambridgeshire's children in care. The annual Children in Care Celebration and Awards event provides a platform for Cambridgeshire County Council to acknowledge and commend the successes, talents, and achievements of these young individuals.
As the corporate parent, the council is dedicated to supporting children in care and care leavers, ensuring their wellbeing, safety, and ability to thrive. This involves safeguarding their welfare, advocating for their interests, and collaborating with partners to provide necessary support, services, and opportunities for a strong start in life.
The council's commitment extends beyond its legal obligations. Through events like this celebration, it aims to make every child and young person in its care feel valued, recognised, and supported, celebrating their unique resilience, determination, and accomplishments.
Prior to the event, staff and carers submitted over 600 award nominations, highlighting the remarkable achievements of more than 440 Cambridgeshire children in care. These nominations recognised a wide range of accomplishments, including academic success, personal growth, acts of kindness, resilience, and determination, showcasing the inspiring talent and ambition of these young people.
