A mental health nurse has successfully raised £260 for a cancer charity in memory of her father, completing a 10km walk in Cambridge.

Sophie Phillips, who works on Ardleigh ward at The Lakes mental health unit in Colchester, a service run by Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust, took part in Cancer Research UK’s Shine Night Walk on Saturday 17 October.
Sophie completed the 10km walk in 2 hours and 1 minute, raising £260 for brain cancer research. Her twin brother, Alex Gorden, also participated, raising over £130 for ovarian cancer research.
The siblings' father, Austen, sadly passed away in May 2022 after being diagnosed with a stage 4 glioblastoma tumour in January of the same year. Sophie is motivated to raise money towards finding a cure for cancer, particularly brain cancer.
Statistics from Cancer Research UK indicate that over 12,500 people in the UK are diagnosed with brain cancers or tumours annually. Those wishing to sponsor Sophie can visit her fundraising page.
