Following a tender process, Gipping Construction has been selected to complete the expansion works at the council’s operational facility. The project includes the construction of a new staff and visitors car park, a storage compound, and alterations to existing vehicle parking arrangements. Associated access, landscaping, and infrastructure works are also planned.
The existing Operational Hub, which opened in 2019, integrates a waste transfer station, an operations depot, a Household Waste Recycling Centre, and a re-use shop. This consolidation aims to improve the management of household waste and recycling, alongside other frontline services.
The expansion is necessary to accommodate new operational requirements and support future growth, driven by the introduction of the Better Recycling scheme and new food waste collection services, which could not have been foreseen during the hub's initial planning. The development will provide additional capacity to meet these evolving needs.
