Residents across West Suffolk have benefited from significant energy efficiency improvements through the Warm Homes: Local Grant (WHLG) scheme, leading to warmer homes, lower energy bills, and reduced carbon emissions.
Within Suffolk, 156 homes have been supported by the scheme, with a total investment of £3.19 million dedicated to energy efficiency and heating enhancements. Between April 2025 and August 2026, the scheme facilitated the installation of 122 solar photovoltaic (PV) panel and battery systems and 47 air source heat pumps across the county.
The WHLG scheme, which is now closed to new applications, was accessible to eligible households. Eligibility criteria included a household income of £36,000 or less and an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D or below. The initiative was funded by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) and administered by Suffolk County Council.
Data indicates a significant improvement in energy performance, with 78 per cent of properties previously rated D now achieving an EPC rating of A to C. An EPC rating assesses a property's energy efficiency, with higher ratings correlating to more efficient homes and potentially lower energy bills. Residents have reported positive outcomes, including reduced energy consumption, lower utility costs, and enhanced comfort during colder periods.
A local resident from West Suffolk, who received loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, solar PV, and battery storage, expressed satisfaction with the completed works. They highlighted the professionalism and respect shown by the tradespeople, the excellent communication throughout the process, and the significant improvement in their home's warmth.
The Warm Homes Local Grant campaign has concluded successfully and is now closed to new applications. Updates regarding the scheme can be found on the relevant websites.
